“Blue and green should often be seen.” Dr Darren Morton, author of Live More Happy.
Our world is fast-paced and technology-driven. We stare at screens, commute in vehicles, and relax by turning on the TV and tuning out the world.
But there’s so much more to life than being inside four walls. Adventists emphasize healthy living and whole-person wellness—and getting outside and being more active are big parts of that.
Adding more outdoor activities to our lives complements the other wellness approaches Sydney Adventists subscribe to, such as plant-based diets, personal development (stewardship), mental health counseling, and depression recovery.
Surrounded by beaches, rugged coastal cliffs and national parks, it is easy to find motivation to get outdoors. Here are some of the oSydney offers a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages and abilities.
Adventists Outdoors (AO) is a volunteer organisation with nationally qualified leaders who are skilled in bushwalking, abseiling, flat water canoeing, mountain biking, canyoning and other outdoor skills. AO works with Pathfinders to provide safe outdoor adventures and helps students develop activity skills they can use throughout life. Find out more about our kids and teens clubs here.
The GSC Youth Department offers boat, jet ski and water skiing equipment hire to church, pathfinder and school groups. We also provide groups with experienced Volunteer staff to drive the boats or jet ski and teach. More
City2Surf combines getting healthy and raising money for a good cause—ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency). Participants in the annual fun run dress up in costumes and travel the 14-km course from Sydney’s Hyde Park to Bondi Beach. You don’t have to be an athlete to get in on the fun—everyone is welcome.
The focus of the Sanitarium WeetBix Kids TRYathlon is to keep Aussie kids outdoors and active. Kids aged 7-15 years of age participate in a non-competitive swimming, cycling and running course to develop self-esteem, get active and have fun. An Australian sporting champion awards medallions and certificates. Learn more at https://tryathlon.com.au/ and https://tryathlon.com.au/locations/sydney/.
To really get off-grid and escape, you don’t need to go far. Crosslands Youth & Convention Centre is just an hour away from Sydney, but a world away from the hustle and bustle. Large and small groups can camp or stay in cottages and cabins while enjoying the heated swimming pool, bushland, sports fields and water. Visitors can find peace while recharging physically, mentally, and spiritually.
