The Greater Sydney Conference Big Camp 2026 at Jindabyne Adventist Alpine Village will long be remembered as a powerful reminder that even when storms arise, faith can still lead the way forward.

In the final days before Big Camp began, a severe storm swept across southern New South Wales, bringing preparations to an abrupt halt. The damage was extensive. Marquees and tents essential for the event were destroyed, placing the entire camp in doubt. At one point, it seemed clear that Big Camp would not go ahead. After a 40-year break, this would have been only the third camp since its revival.
Yet in the midst of uncertainty, the Greater Sydney Conference leadership chose not to give up. There was a strong conviction that they simply needed to keep trying. Trusting in God’s leading, teams arrived at the campsite several days early to begin the enormous task ahead. What they encountered was overwhelming — damaged structures, scattered equipment, and a site that appeared unprepared to host such a large gathering. But step by step, through prayer, teamwork, and determination, the rebuilding began.

There were questions about whether people would still come. But they did — and in large numbers. Families arrived with enthusiasm, and many young people came with a spirit of expectation and faith. Every division ran successfully, from children’s ministries through to youth and adult programs. Worship, fellowship, and community soon filled the grounds that only days earlier had seemed unusable. Lives were touched, friendships strengthened, and faith renewed.

The experience became far more than just a camp meeting. It became a testimony. Storms may come and go, but the mission of God and His church continues forward. As Scripture reminds us, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9, NKJV). And again, “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God goes with you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, NKJV).
Many attendees shared that this was one of the most meaningful camps they had experienced — not because everything went perfectly, but because God’s presence was felt so strongly throughout the challenges.
In many ways, Big Camp reflected the spiritual journey we all face. Storms are an unavoidable part of life. They can discourage us, or they can draw us closer to God. They can lead us to fear, or strengthen our faith. Big Camp 2026 served as a reminder that even in the middle of difficult circumstances, we can continue moving forward with confidence in God’s leading.
