Stewardship Think Tank Brings Leaders Together to Strengthen Stewardship Across the Conference

    30 January 2026

Stewardship Think Tank Session January 2026

On 27 January 2026, a Stewardship Think Tank was held, bringing together local church pastors, conference office leaders, departmental directors, and members of the Conference Limited Board of Directors. The purpose of the day was to prayerfully and intentionally reflect on how stewardship can be strengthened across local churches and how members can be encouraged to faithfully return tithes and offerings to the Lord.

The Think Tank created a valuable space for open conversation, listening, and collaboration. Participants explored the broader picture of stewardship, recognising that it is not only about finances, but also about discipleship, trust, mission, and spiritual growth. Around 30 people took part in the discussions, including those who joined online, making it a truly collective effort.

Several key themes emerged throughout the day. There was a strong emphasis on unity and community, and on the importance of fostering a genuine sense of belonging within local churches. Trust was identified as foundational to healthy stewardship, with participants highlighting the need for transparency at every level of the Church — from the General Conference to the local church. Clear and honest communication about how funds are used was seen as essential.

Another significant outcome was the encouragement to tell stories. Sharing testimonies and real examples of how God has blessed His Church through faithful giving helps members see how the Lord has led in the past and continues to lead today. These stories can inspire confidence, faith, and renewed commitment to God’s mission.

The group also discussed practical considerations around giving. One area of conversation focused on the current average tithe per member, which sits at just under $1,500. The possibility of growing this figure to around $1,800 per member was explored. However, no clear consensus was reached during the Think Tank, and it was agreed that this matter requires further prayer, reflection, and discussion.

As a result, next steps will include continued dialogue. The Conference Executive Committee will consider this topic further, and it will also be discussed at the upcoming combined ministers’ meeting on Monday, 2 February.

Overall, the Stewardship Think Tank was a meaningful and hopeful step forward. It reaffirmed a shared desire to be better stewards of what God has entrusted to us and to work together in strengthening stewardship across the Conference for the glory of God and the advancement of His mission.
