The Greater Sydney Conference (GSC) will host a conference-wide Big Camp 22-27 April 2024. The camp will be held at the Adventist Alpine Village in Jindabyne, NSW. The event will follow South New South Wales Conference’s (SNSW) Big Camp, which will be taking place at the venue the week prior.
This will be the Conference’s first Big Camp since INSPIRE in 2016. With limited options within Greater Sydney, selecting a suitable venue was a challenge.
“What it came down to was infrastructure”, says Pr Alban Matohiti, GSC President. “With a retreat setting in mind, we also wanted to ensure a wide range of nearby accomodation options for attendees––not everyone will want to camp. Jindabyne offers options to suit a variety of wants and needs. Additionally, by using the SNSW Conference’s venue and piggybacking off their camp, we are able to save on costs and invest back into the event. Jindabyne won’t be the perfect solution for everyone, but it’s a good restarting point.”
Big Camp is a convention typically held over multiple days. In some areas of the Adventist world, it is called “camp meeting”. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with each other, connect, and build lasting relationships with other Sydney Adventists.
Planning for Big Camp in well underway. With a focus on providing an immersive experience for attendees, the camp will offer a wide rage of activities and workshops in addition to exploring important topics of the Christian journey in present times.
“We’re planning this event for adults as much as we are for youth”, says Jacinda Ralph, Assistant to the Youth Department. “The children and youth programs are going to be fun, and we want that for the grown up kids as well. This camp will be about joy as much as it is grounding ourselves in the mission God asks of us.”
Speakers for the event will be announced shortly. Costs and on-site accomodation options will be made available in the coming months. Those wishing to stay in hotel accommodations off-site are encouraged to book early.
