July 26, 2023: The Seventh-day Adventist Portuguese Church in Sydney, celebrated a significant milestone in its history: the ruby anniversary of its foundation. The event took place on July 21st at the church headquarters in Ashfield NSW and was a moment of celebration, reflection, and gratitude, highlighting the enduring importance of the church in the Portuguese-speaking community.
With approximately 235 people in attendance, the event featured a special program followed by a delightful lunch. Additionally, a documentary recounting the church’s history was one of the highlights of the day. As a result, one person requested baptism, and four others expressed interest in studying the Bible.
For four decades, IASD Sydney has been a vital force in the Portuguese-speaking community, playing an essential role in providing spiritual, social, and cultural support to its members. Throughout these years, the church has been dedicated to promoting moral and spiritual values. Notably, IASD Sydney’s work has been marked by its commitment to social projects that benefit not only its members but also the broader community.
The celebration of the Adventist Portuguese Church 40 years was a special moment that brought together current and former church members, friends from the community, as well as Portuguese-speaking community leaders. It was an opportunity to celebrate the church’s achievements, reminisce about significant moments, and honour those who made a difference in the community’s history.
Over these four decades of service and dedication, IASD Sydney has become a reference among Portuguese Seventh-day Adventist Churches outside of Brazil. Its history of success and commitment to Adventist values and the Portuguese-speaking community has attracted a significant number of Christians considering moving away from Brazil. The church not only offers a spiritual home for community members already in Australia but has also established itself as an attractive beacon for those seeking new opportunities in foreign lands while maintaining their spiritual and cultural ties.
