By the time you read this, the building that will soon become the new head office for the Greater Sydney Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (GSC) in Epping will have been completed—a milestone that marks the culmination of more than a decade of planning, prayer and perseverance. What once seemed like a distant dream is now a tangible reality, and we give all glory to God for His guidance and provision throughout this journey.
From Vision to Reality
For a long while, the path forward looked challenging. There were moments when the obstacles seemed insurmountable—complex negotiations with developers, architects, town planners and certifiers tested our resolve. Yet, by God’s grace and His perfect timing, the right people were placed in the right roles to help us navigate these hurdles. Today, we stand with a commercial stratum space (individual units within a larger commercial building that are separately owned by different investors) that is fit to serve as the head office for our church.
The guidelines set during the constituency meeting on 11 August 2015 called for 1,650 square metres of office space, and that is exactly what has been delivered. This space will allow us to better serve our mission and provide a central hub for ministry and administration.
Some may remember that GSC originally owned the land where the building now sits. Initially the arrangement was a joint venture: GSC provided the land, developer would provide the building and GSC would be provided with ownership of an appropriate share of the building. Over the years, a decision was made for GSC to sell the land to the developer, divesting its risk in the building development. As part of that sale, an agreement was made that gave GSC the first option to purchase at a set price the commercial stratum space.
Addressing Challenges
While the building meets our office space requirements, one area remains a challenge: parking. The number of official carparks provided (28) is less than initially estimated, however, the carparks provided do comply with council regulations. We will continue to explore creative solutions to ensure accessibility and convenience for staff and visitors.
What’s Next?
Although the building is complete, there are several important steps before we can officially move in:
Legal Finalisation: We are working closely with legal counsel to finalise the strata management statement and shared facilities agreement for the commercial stratum space. Expected completion: by January 2026
Certification: We are awaiting the developer to issue the occupancy certification and confirm practical completion. Expected completion: by January 2026
Fit-Out Planning: Our team is finalising fit-out plans to ensure the space reflects our values and meets operational needs. Expected implementation: January to April 2026
Development Application: We will submit the necessary documentation to confirm the intended use of the commercial and retail space. Expected implementation: June 2026
Tender and Fit-Out: Once approvals are in place, we will tender for the fit-out and begin transforming the space. Expected implementation: May to November 2026
Move-In and Celebration: After the fit-out is complete, we will arrange the move-in and host an open house—a time to visit, celebrate and thank God for His abundant provision. Expected date: November or December 2026
A Heartfelt Thank You
This achievement is not just about bricks and mortar. It is about faith, community and commitment. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed through each stage of this process—from the initial ideation to the final preparations for move-in. Your prayers, support and dedication have made this possible.
As we look forward to November 2026, let us continue to remember that it is the work of creating a thriving, disciple making movement in Sydney that is most important. Let us continue to trust in God’s plan and remain united in purpose.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” Psalm 127:1
