Run a Nedley Depression & Anxiety Recovery Program (DARP)

You can make a difference in someone’s life by facilitating a Nedley Depression and Anxiety Recovery Program (DARP). This training teaches you how.

    Overview

Depression affects 300 million people worldwide and it is the leading cause of disability. One in 5 Australians experience depression in their lifetime. The main symptoms of depression constitute a low, sad and hopeless mood. Anxiety is the most common mental health disorder with involvement of overwhelming sense of fear, worry and nervousness. Since 2020, more Australians have utilised mental health services, with 3.4 million people consulting a mental health professional in the last 2 years. Up to 612,000 people have taken on online mental health services (counselling service, support groups, online treatment etc).

You can make a difference in someone’s life by equipping yourself in how to facilitate a Nedley Depression and Anxiety Recovery Program (DARP). You can help someone overcome depression and anxiety and motivation to help achieve their goals and mental health.

What is the basic requirement of personnel to run Nedley DARP?

For a community group to run a Nedley DARP, you will need at least 2 qualified trained personnel: 1 Associate Director and at least 1 Facilitator.

Note: Each Associate Director will need at least 1 Facilitator to run a group program. The training to become an Associate Director and a Facilitator is the same. The difference between the two is that an Associate Director coordinates the program and owns the Nedley DARP videos (either DVD of the older material, or the newly updated videos through USB or web access) for the program.

Purchasing the Nedley DARP videos is compulsory for Associate Directors, as the videos provide the contents of the sessions. The participant workbook complements the content in the videos. During the program, the Associate Director and Facilitator play the videos for the group and pause for discussion and sharing.

The Basic essential package to run Nedley DARP includes:

    • The manual
    • Program participant workbook
    • Depression The Way Out textbook
    • Nedley DARP videos

    Recommended additions:

    • Nedley Recovery Journal (purchase through the training registration or the South Pacific Division distributor, Pamela Townend)
    • Telling Yourself the Truth by William Backus & Marie Chapian (to be purchased separately by trainees)
    • SOS Help for Emotions by Lynn Clark (to be purchased separately by trainees)

    Update of Nedley DARP Content:

Recently Nedley Health has done an update to the contents of the videos and participant workbook. The updated resources are available for purchase. This year in 2024, groups are still able to utilise the old workbook and DVDs. But from 2025, there is a recommendation to utilise the new, updated workbooks and videos (sourced from USB and the web). For trained Associate Directors and Facilitators from 2022 to date, you are welcome to update your resources which requires a brief online training update to review the changes in the content. There is no requirement to go through the recertification training in 2024. Look out for the announcement of the online training of the updated Nedley DARP contents.

Previously trained Nedley DARP Associate Directors and Facilitators:

For those who were previously trained in Nedley DARP before 2022, you are required to go through the recertification training (every 3 years). With this July 2024 training, you have the choice to purchase the updated resources or stay with the old resources.

The costs for the Nedley DARP Facilitator Training depends if you are taking on the Associate Director or Facilitator role and the resources that will be used during the program.

    Training costs:

    • First-time Facilitator (updated workbook, Depression the Way Out textbook & training incl. Sunday lunch): $190
    • First-time Associate Director (AD) (updated workbook, Depression the Way Out textbook, USB/Web access program videos, training incl. Sunday lunch): $370
    • Recertification training with updated workbook & Sunday lunch (for previously trained Facilitator before 2022) $125
    • Recertification training with updated workbook & Sunday lunch (for previously trained Assoc. Dir. before 2022) $305
    • Recertification training incl. Sunday lunch without purchase of updated kit (for previously trained Assoc. Dir. and Facilitator before 2022) $60
    • Nedley DARP videos – USB/Web access $180
    • Nedley DARP Journal (optional) $55
