Sydney youth gather for day of worship, sport and friendship

    1 July 2025

Mountain View Adventist College came alive on June 21 as nearly 700 young people gathered for a powerful day of worship, sports, food and friendship. From the very first note to the final whistle, it was a celebration of community, energy, and purpose.

“The morning began with soul-stirring worship led by West Side Worship, setting the tone for what would be a truly unforgettable day,” said Pastor Dejan Stojkovic, Greater Sydney Conference youth director.

According to Pastor Stojkovic, the highlight was a powerful sermon from Pastor Abel Afele, who “challenged each of us to rise up, step out, and become part of a youth movement that brings Jesus into every corner of our communities. His words didn’t just inspire—they sparked action.”

Organisers report that many of the young people invited their non-Adventist friends for the program—some who had never attended a worship service before. “It wasn’t just about sport—it was about sharing faith, values, and the warmth of our church community in the most authentic way possible,” said Pastor Stojkovic.

In the evening, volleyball and basketball tournaments were held, while competitors were cheered on by spectators. “The connections were real,” said Pastor Stojkovic. “Every pass, every huddle, every shared laugh was another thread woven into the fabric of this growing movement of young people passionate about Jesus.”

A single food stall kept everyone fuelled throughout the day, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting another mission trip being planned by the GSC youth department.
