Mountain View Adventist College has just completed the redevelopment of its new state-of-the-art Kindergarten facility called the Kindy Learning Hub. The Kindergarten facility is located immediately adjacent to its Prep-centre which is co-located on the school grounds, creating an educational zone specifically designed for children at the beginning of their educational journey.
The new Kindergarten facility is the size of three traditional classrooms, which can be divided into specific learning zones or opened to accommodate group-based activities quickly and easily. Using glass bi-fold doors, two flexible learning classrooms and one breakout room can be easily created. The breakout room provides crucial focused space for extended learning or additional support. It also allows children to be given some independence whilst still being supervised. Teachers can either combine classes and co-teach or classes can be broken into smaller groups for tailored learning.
The learning space is fitted with the latest new technology including specially designed height adjusted interactive panels which have replaced whiteboards and projectors. Teachers have full connectivity to the panels which are also connected to the internet. In addition to the panels being used as a traditional whiteboards, interactive panels allow the children to engage directly and learn via touch screen.
Whilst creating a highly engaging learning space for children, it is also gives teachers the flexibility and capability to differentiate learning for students, which is especially critical in the early part of Stage 1 learning.
“As Kindergarten students are just beginning their journey as learners, the flexible learning spaces will afford the students opportunities to support inquiry and autonomous learning. The students will have the space to work individually, in small groups or as a whole class. The students will be able to have student centred learning catering for their whole academic needs” notes Mrs Paula Musa, Head of Primary.
