PR | Council gives green light to residential apartments at Wahroonga Estate

    21 September 2022

    PRESS RELEASE

19 September 2022: Plans for residential apartments at the Seventh-day Adventist Church site, Wahroonga Estate, have been given the green light by Ku-ring-gai Council following extensive planning, community engagement and modification.

The project – delivered by Capital Corporation on behalf of the Adventist Church – will provide 177 apartments across four low-rise buildings and is an integral part of the regeneration of the 64.2ha site on Sydney’s North Shore.

The ‘Wahroonga Estate’ is divided into five neighbourhoods and includes 31.4 hectares of environmental conservation lands.

The apartments will be located within the approved Concept Plan’s building envelope, just off Fox Valley Rd.

The DA approval comes 12 years after the State Government approved a Part 3A concept plan for the site which included the expansion of the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH) and a range of residential, commercial, and higher education developments.

Jim Hunter, Director of Capital Corporation, says that the planning process has been inclusive of Council and community feedback.

“The project has been years in the making. We carefully considered feedback from the community and made many amendments in response.

The collaborative approach we took with Council and the community ensured we are delivering a plan that meets the needs of the local community and this was evident in the amount of feedback received,” says Jim.

A review of initial plans resulted in the reconfiguration of the residential development’s footprint, addition of landscaping and open space and modifications to the approved Concept Plan.

Designed by architectural consultancy Group GSA with interiors by Coco Republic, the new energy-efficient buildings aim to be visually interesting, contemporary and sympathetic to the surrounding area.

To be built in two stages, the project will deliver 143 and 34 apartments respectively in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations with outdoor living. The site is currently used as a temporary carpark and also has two older style residences which will be demolished.

Each building will range in size from four to six floors. A new two-lane access road will provide access to a shared basement, providing parking for 322 vehicles, 15 motorbikes and 56 bicycles plus associated facilities and storage. In total, the project will deliver:

    • 26 x one-bedroom apartments
    • 95 x two-bedroom apartments
    • 56 x three-bedroom apartments

“We are thrilled with the result and we are excited to bring this project to market in early 2023.

This is a considerable milestone for the Church as the proceeds from the development will unlock funding for reinvestment into facilities, new educational facilities, and other community assets within the Wahroonga Estate precinct,” says Mr Hunter.
