When tough times in life happen, we try to be there. Fund for Needy Persons (FFNP) is a tax-deductible charity of the Greater Sydney Conference. Its aim is to help desperately poor people recover from a crisis.
Typically funds are spent on the accommodation of abused single mothers and their children whose alternative is sleeping rough. Take for example, the story of Sarah*.
“My name is Sarah and I am a single mum. I’m also Muslim. My husband left me when I was expecting our son and I have been raising him alone since since.
I suffer from health problems, which leaves my 11- year-old son to help me around the house. He desperately needed to have a computer for school, but with my specialist fees, taxi fares to the doctors and my rent well overdue, I knew I wouldn’t be able to buy him one.
As I had married outside my religion, my family and friends had completely cut me out of their lives. I was left with nobody to turn to. Housing NSW contacted ADRA Blacktown to see if they could help save my tenancy. ADRA Blacktown since back paid my entire rent and another mission agency is paying for my son’s school fees along with a new computer.
I am very thankful for what ADRA Blacktown have done for us.”
