Are you being obedient to your heavenly vision?
If you don’t know what your heavenly vision is, how would you find out? Could you find it in the Bible? Would God reveal it to you if you spent a day or a weekend by yourself in prayer and fasting? Could you catch a glimpse of it by reading through the Spirit of Prophecy, which is full of visionary material from God? And when you finally what Jesus’ heavenly vision is for you, would you be obedient to it?
Noah was obedient to his heavenly vision. God had shown him that He would destroy everyone living on the planet by a global Flood. He told Noah that He wanted him to build an ark to save the people who would heed the divine warning and accept God’s plan of salvation. Noah built the ark exactly how God showed him in the vision. Why is it thought incredible that God would justly destroy an evil world by a global Flood while at the same time save people through a very specific wooden, boxy way?
Abraham was obedient to his heavenly vision. God called him to leave the city that he had grown up in and to follow Him wherever He would leave. He promised Abraham that He would make a great nation from him, every though he was well past his reproductive expiry date, and that in fact all of the nations would be blessed through him. Abraham followed God’s call and became the example of faith for millions of people down through the centuries. Why is it thought incredible that God could call an unknown Urite to become a historic role model of faith?
David was obedient to his heavenly vision. God called him from being a shepherd boy to being the king of Jerusalem, from writing pastoral songs while watching sheep graze to writing the musical centrepiece of the Bible. Why is it thought incredible that God could promise to establish His throne through a shepherd boy turned king, even after he committed adultery and murder?
John the Baptist was obedient to his heavenly vision. God called him to live a solitary prophetic life out in the dessert, eating only locusts and honey (the honey sounds great, hopefully the locusts really were just carob beans!). John called people to repentance, even when it meant called the local religious authorities a bunch of snakes. Why is it though incredible that God can use an eccentric mystic to announce the coming of His Messiah?
Paul was obedient to his heavenly vision. Having been stopped in his tracks by Jesus on the road to Damascus, there was nothing that could stop Paul from sharing his testimony and the story about the resurrection of Jesus. Why is it thought incredible by anyone that God can raise His dead Messiah back to life?
What about the Seventh-day Adventist church? Are we being obedient to our heavenly vision? Why is it thought incredible that Jesus will come back again soon? Why is it thought incredible that God would have the fairness and give the angels as much time as they need to understand His judgement decisions before He executes judgement in favour of His people? Why is it thought incredible that God can give visions to a woman with only an eighth grade education, visions that the World Health Organisations are only now catching up on?
What about your local church? Is your local church being obedient to its heavenly vision? What would your church look like if you were collectively obedient to your heavenly vision?
What about your own personal heavenly vision? What would your life look like if you were obedient to that vision? Do you think it is incredible that God would have a vision for your life?
